Victory for St George

St George’s beat Thornden by a mile scoring 42
to Thornden’s 22 in basketball.
The St George KS3 basketball team were filled with joy after their
victory over Thornden at St George’s sports hall on the 5th December
2013. Throughout the 1st and 2nd quarters St George were
in the lead 16-12 but Thornden were closing the gap. Luckily for St George they
kept on scoring to finish the league match 42-22.
The starting five were Ganymede (c), Theo, Christian, Jonathan and
Nial. Subs were Joaquin, Finley and Luke.

The 1st quarter started at 2:40. After just two minutes
St George were 0-4 behind so coach Mr Grace called a time out. Throughout the 1st
quarter St George gave away four fouls and Thornden scored two out of the eight
free throws. But St George didn’t give
up and scored a couple more hoops. At the end of the 1st quarter St
George were in the lead 8-6.
As the 2nd quarter began, both teams scored making it
10-8. Soon after both teams had scored, Ganymede (c) was subbed for Joaquin.
Then Joaquin was given a free throw from a foul and he scored two out of two
making the score 12-8. Shortly after the free throw Nial was subbed for Finley
and minutes later the 2nd quarter was over. The score was 16-12 to St
George.
At the end of the 2nd quarter Mr Grace said, ‘’I called a time out because we started
off badly and needed to refresh our ideas.”
Before the 3rd quarter started Theo and Joaquin were
subbed for Ganymede (c) and Nial. Minutes ticked by where both teams were
scoring continually. As Finley was subbed for Luke the score was 22-16 to St
George. Soon after that Thornden missed both of their free throws and Nial was
subbed for Theo. At the end of the 3rd quarter the score was 32-22
to St George who had a ten point lead going into the final quarter.
As the 4th quarter began Luke was subbed for Finley. Points after points were being scored and when
Theo was subbed for Joaquin the score was 38-26 to St George. Soon after Theo
was subbed, Thornden also missed both of the free throws. Minutes later the
match was over and St George had won 42-28 against Thornden.
Ganymede lay up
When the match was over St George wearing white and red and
Thornden wearing yellow and black shook hands to conclude the basketball match.
Ganymede said ‘’it went well but we need to improve a lot of things.” This
match was referred by Mr Grace, a teacher at St George.
