9 Goal Extra Time Thriller

St
George’s come back in extra time to beat Springfield in a 9 goal match.
The St George Year
9 football team were over the moon with their victory over Springfield at home
on the 29th November 2013. Throughout the 1st half St
George’s were a goal down but in the second half they played much better to
make the final score 1-1. This being a Hampshire Cup match they played into
extra time where both teams scored making it a final 2-2 going into penalties.
Luckily for St George they won the penalties 5-4 so they could move into the
next round of the Hampshire cup.
The starting
eleven were James (c),Dan K ,Jonathan ,Daniel
P ,Harrison ,Warren ,Kieron K, Che, Naz, Glen and Marcel. The formation was
4,3,3. Subs were Quin, Jordan, Nial, Abdul and Kieran W.
The match got underway
at 2.30pm. After 20 minutes Springfield were 0-1 up and had almost scored two
more goals but St George they were saved on the line by Harrison and Jonathan. Later
on Kieron K was subbed for Kieran W to conclude the first half and St George
were 0-1 behind.
At half time Mr
Steve Strange (spectator) said, “Tight game ,very physical ,they are a very
good passing team so we need to step it up , be first to the ball ,then our
team will be normal standard and then we will win the game.”
Before the
second half started Che and Naz was subbed for Quin and Abdul. At 48 minutes Kieran W
scored for St George to make it 1-1. Later on in the second half Warren was
subbed for Jordan and Marcel was injured by a tackle but he recovered quickly. Soon
after Marcel’s injury Dan P, Quin, Glen and Kieran W were subbed for Kieron K, Che,
Nial and Naz. To conclude the match at 65 minutes Jordan was subbed for Warren.
Five minutes later it was full time 1-1 going into extra time.
The first half
of extra time had begun five minutes each way and minutes later St George shot
but it was saved by the Springfield keeper. As the second half of extra time
began Quin scored for St George making it 2-1 to the home team. But minutes
later Springfield scored with the last kick of the match making it 2-2 going
into penalties.
Jordan went up first
and missed by an inch but Springfield scored making it 0-1. Then Abdul and Warren
both scored and both of Springfield’s players missed making it now 2-1 to St
George’s. It went 4-4 into sudden death. Naz was next, he scored and when the
Springfield player then missed, St George had won the match and were closer to
winning the Hampshire Cup.
When the match
was over St George, wearing red and white, and Springfield, wearing white with
black strips, shook hands to conclude the football match. The match was refereed by Mr A
Maynard a PE teacher at St George’s.
